FOREST RANGER FUND
There are approximately 13,000 forest rangers in Thailand.
All of them are either under the department of national parks, wildlife and plant conservation and the royal forest department. Ministry of natural resources and environment.
A small portion has government official status, but a much lager portion works as an employee.
A Forest ranger is responsible to protect, on average, 5km2
Challenges
- Most of working areas are tropical rain forest, Access to the majority of the areas is by walking which is very difficult in rainy season.
- Not enough equipment and tools necessary for performing duties.
- Occupational hazards such as from poachers or illegal loggers, from wild animals, from accidents, or from various diseases.
- Relatively low salary and welfare compared to risky working conditions.
- In the forest ranger group that has the employee status, there is no guarantee on job security.

SEUB NAKHASATHIEN FOUNDATION FUND
Conservationist friends and colleagues recognized the importance of preserving the ideals of Seub Nakhasathien. A meeting was held among Seub’s friends from the Royal Forest Department and the Faculty of Forestry, who unanimously agreed to establish the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation.
Before the foundation’s formal establishment, forestry alumni created a donation fund called the “Forest Conservation Fund for Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary,” to carry on Seub’s mission and spirit. This fund later evolved into the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation Fund.
At its founding, the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation received royal patronage from Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, who graciously granted a personal donation of 2,448,540 baht as the foundation’s initial capital. In addition, Her Royal Highness Princess Somasawali, the Princess Suddhanarinatha, generously contributed a further 100,000 baht from her personal funds.
This fund serves to support the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation’s operations in accordance with its vision and strategic goals.
